Description:

Founded in 1942 in Beijing as Folklore Studies, the journal was renamed Asian Folklore Studies in 1963 in order to highlight its close relationship to Asian cultures. It is a semi-annual journal published by the Anthropological Institute of Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan. The journal publishes contributions on any topic related to folklore, yet a special effort is made to include research by Asian scholars and folklorists related to Asian cultures. Occasional special issues are dedicated to a particular culture or geographic area, but individual contributions may cover such topics as oral tradition, folk tales and folk religion, and material culture. The journal features articles or firsthand source material, and also contains book reviews and news about events related to the field of folklore.
